John Hershey Biography
My passion has always been photographing with a visual journalist’s eye. As a full-time resident of Bodega Bay, I am fortunate to live in such photogenic beauty.

A native Pennsylvanian, I am a graduate of Syracuse University with a B.A. in Advertising Design and graduate studies in Photojournalism. I also spent four years as a US Navy Photographer.

In 1980, I founded Hershey Multimedia with partner Ted Lawyer, a successful San Francisco production and staging company that thrived for 27 years. I served as producer, creative director, designer, and photographer for corporate clients in Silicon Valley and San Francisco.

My photographic experience spans 50 years and includes such diverse genres as:

• Freelance photography in retail, fashion, industrial production, manufacturing, real estate, editorial, event coverage, and portraiture.

• Multimedia Producer at Memorex Corporation.

• Set design and media production for industrial theater (Pacific Bell, Visa USA, National Semiconductor, Macy’s, Cirrus Logic).

• Environmental portraiture for the “Faces of Bodega Bay”, a series of 89 photos capturing the people living in the town.

• Book publications: “Shorelines and Shorebirds,” “Sonoma Coast: Images of Modern America”(photographic contributor),“Crab Fishing on the Annabelle”- photojournalistic up-close view of the boats and fishermen bringing in the crab harvest.

• Installations at Estero Cafe, Terrapin Creek Cafe, Salmon Creek Art Walk, and Sonoma Coast Visitor’s Center

• Experimental Infrared scenic photography

• Marine life and bird life photography

I continue to explore the Sonoma Coast finding new ways to capture the changing environment. I am mesmerized by the power and beauty of the Pacific Ocean.
